Mothers of murder victims call for law changes

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The mothers of murder victims Jaydon Chavez-Silver and Lilly Garcia want city leaders to get tough on repeat offenders.

Veronica Garcia and Nicole Chavez were at Wednesday’s council meeting.

Their group, ROBD, stands for “Repeat Offenders Bring Devastation and Death.” It aims to make changes to Albuquerque laws.

They say they’ll need support from the community.

“One of the bills that we pass is the constitutional amendment, is giving the judges the ability to withhold bond altogether for very violent crimes. Well, we as community members get to vote on that in November,” said Nicole Chavez.

Both Chavez and Garcia’s children were killed in shootings last year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
