Letter warns District Attorney to stop talking about Sandy, Perez case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The special prosecutor in the murder case against two police officers gave the district attorney a stern warning to stop talking about the case.

A judge on Tuesday ordered Special Prosecutor Randi McGinn to send District Attorney Kari Brandenburg the letter.

This was after a recent Buzzfeed article was released in which Brandenburg gave details in the case and explained how she felt threatened after she charged the officers.

The defense filed a motion saying McGinn and Brandenburg should be sanctioned.

The letter was hand delivered Wednesday to Brandenburg’s office.

It states in part that she refrain from making statements to the media, saying it would be a shame if after all the hard work on the case it be dismissed or a mistrial based on outside publicity.

She ends the note saying “Can you please keep your powder dry until after the trial is complete and advise your office to do the same.”

Dominique Perez and Keith Sandy are charged in the murder of homeless camper James Boyd.

Jury selection begins next week.scanned-from-a-xerox-multifunction-device002
