ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –  Albuquerque police say they found and arrested the man accused of hitting another man on purpose and leaving him for dead.

Joseph Perea, 21, was arrested for the murder of 22-year-old Devon Martinez, according to police.

It happened just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday near Juan Tabo and Central.

Officers arrived to find Martinez in the middle of the road. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The criminal complaint says that Perea started getting physical with some at the party and even pulled a knife. That’s when police say Martinez and several others told him and his girlfriend to get out.

Witnesses say Perea took off in his car, then turned around and intentionally ran over Martinez as he was standing in the driveway at a home near Martha and Chico.

Perea is charged with an open count of murder. He’s being held on a $1 million cash only bond.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Martinez to help with funeral expenses.
