ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Joe Franklin and his University of New Mexico Women’s Cross Country team are preseason favorites to repeat in 2016.

The Lobos picked up 9 of 12 possible first place votes in the Women’s Cross Country National Coaches Poll. They are the first defending champions picked to repeat since Villanova six years ago.

The Lobos dominated the NCAA Championship as a team and return three all Americans this upcoming season.

“You know our name recognition not just in the country but throughout the world has skyrocketed with the way the women ran this year,” said head coach Joe Franklin. “It’s a very solid group. We have great returners and great newcomers. The expectations are still there.”

The Lobos’ first competition of the season is Saturday, September 3, as they host the Lobo Invitational at the UNM North Golf Course.
