Cine Magnifico

Albuquerque’s Latino Film Festival

Cine Magnifico celebrates the rich and diverse Latino culture through film.

Presented by Instituto Cervantes, the four-day festival brings together local award winning filmmakers in a showcase that explores the issues shaping current Hispanic-Latino cultures and landscapes.

“Cine Magnifico founded in 2013 so this will be the fourth year of the festival so this is a young festival, but we are making giant steps every year,” says Cine Magnifico Festival Director Milly Castaneda-Ledwith.

As part of the selection committee, there is a number of criteria that must be met for films to be selected into the showcase. Marian Giraldez Elizo, a member of the screening committee explains, “One of the things that we look for in the films, is that they’re new, within the year. Also, that we like to have some of the local filmmakers as well – so we have a form on our website for people to submit their films. We talk to national and international distributors and that’s how we choose the films. We watched 115 feature films, and 60 short films.”
