Ofc. Chavez’s family gathers for candlelight vigil

HATCH, N.M. (KRQE) – A dream job ended far too early for Ofc. Jose Chavez. His family said he dreamed of being a police officer since he was a boy.

“I can’t believe it yet,” said Chavez’s sister, Patricia Ramirez. “I keep hoping that they’ll tell us this isn’t real and we miss him a lot.”

The 33-year-old leaves two daughters.

Saturday night, hundreds gathered outside the Hatch Police Department for a candlelight vigil to remember the officer. He was loved by many.
