RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE)- Two years ago the Rio Rancho Ram Football team took home the first ever Class 6-A Football State Title. Injuries and three bad games at the end of the season last year prevented the Rams from competing for a second consecutive title and that’s something that this team is using as motivation.
“The season itself, it kind of left them with a sour taste in their mouth and they have used that as their motivator on a daily basis to just get back to where we belong and fighting for that state championship”, said RRHS Football Coach David Howes.
This team has 25 seniors on their roster in 2016, and they get back one of the best juniors from last year in Josh Foley. The running back/cornerback’s season was cut short in his junior year after breaking his fibula. The now senior is excited to get back on the field.
“I am extremely excited I feel like I have been off the field for a really long time and I really like our team this year and I feel like we are going to go far,” said Foley. “Yeah I am definitely going to leave it all on the field every game. That’s all we have been thinking about since last year is that state title this year and we really have a good shot at it.”
The Rams open their season up with a doozy, taking on Mayfield at their place on August 26th. Kickoff is 7 pm.
