Federal government to look into Albuquerque air quality

Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The federal government said it will look into complaints about air quality in poor Albuquerque neighborhoods.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the Southwest Organizing Project and the New Mexico Environmental Law Center filed a complaint two years ago.

The groups said policies in Bernalillo County and Albuquerque allow build up of harmful pollution, especially in the San Jose and Mountain View neighborhoods.

The city maintains it has the highest designation of air quality granted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA said the Office of Civil Rights will investigate.
