ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- Charlie Dotson and his Eldorado Eagles are coming off a state championship appearance last year, and this team has a bitter taste in their mouth from losing to Cleveland in that game.
“Yeah we are playing with a chip on our shoulders. I think the team is ready. We have been working really hard in the off-season and I think that we are ready to come compete for the state championship,” said Sr. Safety/RB Elijah Gudelj-Cox.
It won’t be the easiest road to a State Championship in 2016, as the Eagles lose 20 seniors from last year, and are very young on defense.
“Our goal is always going to be to get into the playoffs first of all and try to win a state championship. You know, we return five or six kids on the offensive side of the ball and on the defensive side, we are going to be starting all new defensive lineman, so that’s a little scary. We need to keep it on an even keel and just stay healthy,” said EHS Head Coach Charlie Dotson.
They will start a freshman and a sophomore on their defensive line in 2016, but if anybody can round up this team it is Coach Charlie Dotson. “He is a really good coach. We trust his whole routine that he has going with us, and you know it’s been paying off for the past couple of years, like we have been really close. We are hopefully going to make our way back and get it this year,” said Sr. RB Elias Baker.
The Eagles start out their tough schedule in Las Cruces on August 26, playing the Bulldawgs.
