Authorities: Eunice officer shoots, wounds man who had knife

EUNICE, N.M. (AP) – Authorities say a police officer responding to a domestic violence call at a residence in Lea County in southeastern New Mexico shot and wounded a man who had a knife.

New Mexico State Police say a preliminary investigation indicates that a Eunice officer shot 41-year-old Roberto Granados Ocona on Tuesday after the officer entered the residence and encountered Ocona.

State police say no officers were injured and that Ocona is hospitalized in stable condition.

The identity of the officer who shot Ocona was not released and no additional information is immediately available.
