ESPANOLA, N.M. (KRQE) – A settlement has been made between former Española Valley High School basketball coach Richard Martinez and the school district on Tuesday.
Martinez was fired after being accused of abusing his players and has been under investigation for other allegations as well. Last month, Martinez denied all of the accusations laid out against him through his attorney.
School Board President Pablo Lujan told KRQE News 13 that during a school board meeting Tuesday, legal counsel announced a settlement agreement had been made in regards to Martinez’s firing from the district. The settlement was made between Martinez and his attorney Sam Bregman and the Superintendent Eric Martinez and their attorney.
Right now, Lujan says the terms of the settlement are not known to the public or even the board, but will be released once they are written up.
A school board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
