Timberon Fire 40 Percent Contained
Firefighters seem to finally have the upper hand on the Timberon fire–now 40 percent contained. Crews are in the mop-up stage putting out hot spots, but the blaze took a nasty toll. Forty-four homes are destroyed and 26 other structures are damaged or ruined. Governor Susana Martinez declared a state of emergency Friday to free up resources to fight the fire, which sparked Wednesday.
Cigarette Request Gets Violent
Turning down a request for a cigarette turned dangerous for a group of Albuquerque men. It happened at Los Altos Park near Eubank and I-40, Friday. According to a criminal complaint, four men were hanging out when John Archuleta approached them for a cigarette. Police say when they refused, Archuleta kicked over a beer, punched one of the men in the head and pulled a butcher’s knife on them before running. Officers arrested Archuleta. At last check, he’s behind bars at MDC.
Deadly Motorcycle Crash
A motorcyclist is dead after a crash in northeast Albuquerque. It happened around 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening, near Comanche and Louisiana. That intersection was closed for several hours while police investigated. It’s unknown what caused that crash or whether anyone else was hurt.
