Police arrest man accused of threatening store employees with knife

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man accused of threatening a grocery store employee with a knife is waking up in jail Monday morning.

Sunday afternoon police arrested 34-year-old Richard Garcia. Police say he threatened a Smith’s grocery store employee after the worker accused him of shoplifting.

After an hours long standoff with police Garcia surrendered and was taken in to custody without incident.

Officers say Garcia claimed he was just trying to buy some water.

Garcia is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
