ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s unhealthy and disgusting. That’s what people in one Albuquerque apartment complex are saying about the sewage they say has been flowing through their parking lot.
“You can see the toilet paper from the sewage leak,” Christina Yellowhorse said as she got video of it over the past few weeks.
“Here comes another car going through the sewage again,” she said.
Yellowhorse said she saw and smelled the spill at Aztec Village Apartments near Montgomery and I-25 for about two weeks.
“Something should have been done a long time ago, when it first happened. I know there were lots of complaints,” one resident said.
He said he first saw it while walking his dog and the smell confirmed it.
“Just caught wind of this awful stench, and I realized it was human sewage,” the resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said. “It’s just really terrible because I see children playing around in this specific area.”
The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority told KRQE News 13 that crews were called three weeks ago to check it out, but the workers found the problem was with the apartment’s plumbing.
“The pumps to the sewer lift station are currently being repaired,” a statement from Aztec Village Apartments stated. “In the meantime, the contractor has installed backup pumps while final repairs are being completed. We hope to have the matter resolved soon.”
