Facebook in NM?

Facebook needs a new data center and thinks New Mexico could be the perfect place, but other states believe they’re the best fit.  Facebook is considering New Mexico and Utah for their next data center location. According to the PRC application, the company would initially invest $250 million in that data center. Facebook wants its data center run solely off renewable energy. That’s why PNM filed an application with the public regulatory commission about building a solar center to power that facility. This news comes as rumors continue to swirl about a possible internet heavyweight moving into Los Lunas. We reached out to the mayor to see if Facebook is that company but did not hear back.

Jones Fails Second Test

UFC fighter Jon “Bones” Jones’ second drug test came back positive. A U.S. Anti-Doping Agency spokesman confirmed it Friday. Saturday’s fight between Jones and Daniel Cormier was cancelled Wednesday after a June test revealed a potential doping violation. Jones denied using any performance-enhancing drugs knowingly on Thursday. Regardless, he could now face a two year suspension from the UFC. This is not the first time the fighter has been in trouble. The UFC suspended Jones for months following a hit-and-run crash in Albuquerque.

Griego to Stand Trial

Former New Mexico State Senator Phil Griego will stand trial on corruption charges. Griego is accused of pushing legislation through a few years ago to sell a state-owned building in Santa Fe. He made a $51,000 commission on the sale. A judge ruled, Friday, there is enough evidence to try Griego on fraud, briber, and perjury charges and ethics violations. The trial date has not been set.
