Thief caught on camera prying open car door with his bare hands

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M (KRQE) – A thief caught on surveillance video breaking into a car at an Albuquerque restaurant has a lot of people amazed. It looks like he peels open the locked door with his bare hands.

On Wednesday morning just before nine at the Cracker Barrel restaurant at San Antonio and I-25, surveillance video captures a man walk up to the passenger side of a red Toyota corolla.

The man appears to pry his fingers between the door and its frame and peel back the passenger side door. Then a woman walks around to the driver’s side and they ransack the car.

Albuquerque Police Officer Simon Drobik says at least four people were involved in this bizarre break-in.

“Thousands of dollars’ worth of damage for maybe $20 worth of CDs,” Drobik said.

The Cracker Barrel customers KRQE News 13 showed the video to were concerned as they went inside for lunch. It has APD worried too, that’s why they want the suspect and his accomplices caught.

“This guy’s so strong, he’s brazen, it’s in the middle of the day. If a civilian came out and confronted him, what would happen?” Drobik said.

Police say they can’t recall seeing any other cases where a thief simply bent a door off a car. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
