Inn of the Mountain Gods plans for biggest firework show yet

MESCALERO, N.M. (KRQE) – This Independence Day, one New Mexico community says they have been working extra hard to make their Fourth of July fireworks show the best it’s ever been.

People were already piling into the Inn of the Mountain Gods early Monday afternoon to claim their spots on the lawn for the firework show.

“We’ve gotten up to, we’ve had crowds of 10 thousand to 20 thousand depending on the year,” said Sarah Kazhe-Kirgan, director of marketing for the Inn of the Mountain Gods.

Coordinators for the annual Star Spangled Celebration say that it’s always a spectacular show but this year, they say it will be the best show in the whole state.

“You just can’t get any better than that, I mean you’re right next to a lake, beautiful lawn, cool mountain air, it just can’t get better than that,” said Kirgan.

Families from all over come out to check out the fireworks display that happens right over the lake. There is also food, a rock wall, and jumping balloons and a zip line.

You can also check out the show on the lake using one of the boats, kayaks or paddle boards that the resort has.

The staff says putting on such a big event takes at least six months of preparation.

“We’ll start planning probably in January, we will set the date after this event and then we will start hardcore planning in January,” said Kirgan.

The show is free to everyone
