ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Holly Holm isn’t focused on winning an ESPY right now. She is more focused on winning her July 23rd fight against Valentina Shevchenko in Chicago, Illinois.
Holm is in two categories in this year’s ESPYS. She is in the running for “Best Upset of the Year” and “Best Play of the Year,” as both instances come from her knockout victory of Ronda Rousey.
It was a huge moment in her career, but also in the sport of Women’s MMA.
“Ronda was so dominant, she was just running through people, within the first round like it was no big deal. I think it does inspire other girls to think no I am going to do it, and here they all are. It’s created a lot of excitement in our weight class,” said Holm.
She is of course looking to get back to greatness after losing the UFC Bantamweight Title to Miesha Tate in her first title defense, but Holm is up for the challenge. The first person in her sights is of course Valentina Shevchenko, who hold a 12-2 professional record. Holm is 10-1 in her MMA career and expect to see a determined Holly in Chicago on July 23.
