ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – KRQE News 13 and Smith’s Grocery Stores have teamed up this summer for a good cause — and you can help too.

It’s part of KRQE Cares – Food for Kids. From now until the end of the month, you can drop off non-perishable food items at any Smith’s Grocery Store in Albuquerque. All the donations will be given to the Albuquerque Public Schools Title 1 Homeless Project. The program helps students and families who are in need.

“It’s a variety of situations, but there’s a tremendous need. We’re always getting asked for food when we help families,” said Patrick Scott, a project spokesperson.

Smith’s also donated $5,000 worth of food straight to the program. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
