Doctors warn of injuries related to summer activities

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With more people spending time outside during the summer, doctors say that can lead to different types of injuries.

From mowing the lawn to water sports and grilling out, anything can lead to something minor. But doctors say an injury that gets worse needs immediate attention and the best place to go is the ER.

However, doctors say smaller cuts, broken bones or a cold are better treated at a place like your family doctor or an Urgent Care center.

“ER is here for major emergencies. We’re set up to take care of chest pains, shortness of breath. If you have something you’d go to your normal doctor for, ear pain, dental pain, those are appropriate for an Urgent Care center,” said Dr. Ryan Hoffman, Bon Secours St. Francis in South Carolina.

There are about a dozen Urgent Care centers in Albuquerque. ER doctors also suggest being careful in hot temperatures like the ones we’ve been seeing lately so that you don’t suffer a heat-related illness and of course, wear sunscreen.
