ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A big-time major league player is getting the boot but he’s walking away with an almost $40 million parting gift.

Shortstop Jose Reyes has been playing with the Isotopes for the past couple weeks getting back into baseball shape following his two-month suspension for a domestic violence arrest. The Rockies have tried to trade him but no one wants the 33-year-old former All-Star.

Wednesday the Rockies cut the Isotope — which means they’ll eat the $13 million he’s still due this year, $22 million for next year and a $4 million buyout. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
