Initiative aims to increase outdoor education for Rio Rancho students

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The Bureau of Land Management and Rio Rancho Public Schools are teaming together to hit the trails.

It’s part of Tent Rocks National Monument’s “Hit the Trails” learning initiative, which is aimed at increasing outdoor education while encouraging kids to explore nature.

BLM will also provide teachers and students opportunities to learn about the monument by waiving entrance fees and providing free rides to and from the monument. BLM is also working on giving free lesson plans. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
