LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State University’s athletic department has cut almost $430,000 from its budget to make up for a $10.7 million shortfall.
Just last month, the university voted against increasing tuition for next year to fill the budget gap.
Instead, they decided to cut administrator salaries and trim expenses. Programs within the athletic department had to make cuts in order to balance the department’s budget.
The school says the drop in funding is a result of state budget cuts and a drop in enrollment.
