Former senator fights to take down cell tower in Albuquerque neighborhood

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –An Albuquerque resident and former state senator wants the city to tear down a cell tower in his neighborhood.

Three years ago, the city agreed to allow AT&T to build the tower near the 17th T-box of the Desert Greens Golf Course near homes that line the course. The tower is disguised as a clock but Joe Carraro says the city rammed the proposal through without getting public input.

“They planned to put it out here without letting us know first of all and then to put it here and it’s not integrated into the surroundings and that’s part of the law,” said Carraro.

It turns out, the city council voted to build the tower but Carraro took his appeal to district court saying the proposal needs a full vote of the council.

The court agreed and Monday night the tower is up for a full vote. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
