ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A double murderer was unable to convince the State Supreme Court a man was mentally disabled at time of two killings.
Telyith Fontayne Hopkins was sentenced to life in prison.
He raped, stabbed, and then strangled a hotel maid with a telephone cord in 2012.
Days later he attacked a man with a rock and strangled him.
Hopkins appealed his sentence, saying a doctor had found him mentally incompetent to stand trial.
The court decided, while laws do give special treatment to mentally retarded people, Hopkins is not one of them.
