LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – Authorities say a body found east of Las Cruces has been identified as a man missing since for almost two months.

Las Cruces police announced Monday that the body has been positively identified as 28-year-old Jesse Robert Garcia.

The body was located May 31 in an undeveloped desert area east of Las Cruces by a hiker, who reported it to law enforcement.

The remains were sent to the medical investigator’s office for positive identification.

Garcia was last seen by relatives on the morning of April 17 and was last known to be staying at a home on Las Cruces’ East Mesa.

Police say the investigation into the cause of Garcia’s death still is ongoing. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
