Police investigating southwest Albuquerque homicide

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)– Police are investigating a homicide in southwest Albuquerque.

APD says they were called out to Alvera Ave around 5:30 for reports of shots fired. That’s when they found one person dead inside a home. Neighbors say before officers arrived they heard a lot of commotion.

“It was scary, especially when I got nosey to see what was going on,” said a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified.

APD has not said how the victim died but they do say they suspect there are more victims involved in this incident. They wouldn’t say why they think that.

A witness says she realized something was wrong when she was driving down the street and saw a man run out of a home in handcuffs. She says several other people following him.

“He was in a hurry, that’s why he got my attention, because I almost hit him with my car. He was running and I don’t know if it was a wife or girlfriend but they were behind him and a lady with a baby in her arms.”

That woman also says she later saw a second man in handcuffs speaking to officers. APD said it could not confirm that woman’s story. Other neighbors say they heard several gunshots before police arrived.

APD wouldn’t say if anyone was taken into custody at the scene.
