Argument after truck is hit with shopping cart ends with couple behind bars

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)– An argument Friday night escalated quickly after a truck was hit with a shopping cart.

18-year-old Ivan Maldonado has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police say he and his 16-year-old girlfriend hit and damaged a truck with that cart in a neighborhood near Lomas and Hotel Circle. The owner of the truck wasn’t pleased to say the least.

APD says Maldonado retrieved a gun and gave it to his girlfriend who began to wave it around, even pointing it at four people who were working up on a roof.

According to the criminal complaint she made threats saying, “You want to see this gun go off.”

The victims were forced to hide on the roof fearing they’d be shot.

The gun turned out to be a b-b gun.

Both Maldonado and his girlfriend were arrested.

His bond was set at $10,000. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
