ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – State Police and local law enforcement will be out in full force this holiday weekend to stop drunk drivers. Governor Martinez announced a new initiative Friday.

Police say they’ll be out patrolling waterways, highways and neighborhoods. They want to remind you to act responsibly and designate a driver if you’ve had too much to drink. Police are also encouraging kids to look out for their parents.

So far this year, there have been 1,600 DWI arrests and 35 fatalities.
