ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico is among those bidding to manage Sandia National Labs.
The $2.9 billion contract is up for bid for the first time in decades. The university has signed a formal agreement with Batelle, the Boeing Company, Texas A&M and the University of Texas to bid jointly to manage Sandia Labs. The National Nuclear Security Administration issued its final request for proposals last week.
“This is the best team to be a part of. You can’t ever be confident in something like this but this is the best team we could be a part of,” said University of New Mexico President Robert Frank.
The Department of Energy should award the contract by the end of the year.
