UNM to host Special Olympics Summer Games

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Their mission is to provide year around sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic style sports, and their summer Olympics is just around the corner.

Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM) provides training for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, which gives them continuous opportunities to develop physical fitness and to demonstrate courage.

SONM biggest sports competitions is returning to the University of New Mexico’s Track and Field Stadium, along with Sandia Preparatory school, May 20 and 21st.

The opening ceremony begins Friday, May 20 at 7 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, May 21, there will be Track and Field, Bocce and Flag Football.

There will also be a victory dance held at Cliffs Amusement Park.
