UNM Alert: Shelter in place lifted, no armed man found

UNM Shelter in place

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico sent out an alert on Monday about an armed man in the area of Yale and Central. The campus was put on a brief shelter in place.

The Albuquerque Police Department said a man with a gun got off a city bus. That man was said to be wearing a white polo, dark pants and a blue back pack, according to the university’s message. The man in question was not located but police said to return to normal activity.

Police said that an anonymous source tipped them off to the armed man. The source said the man was pointing a gun at a passerby and then got onto a city bus. Officers said they arrived to the scene and observed the man that matched the description. That is when police say the man ran onto campus. APD and UNM police then set up a parameter and searched in the area.

The man was not found.
