City council looking at proposal to double some parking fines

Increased Parking Fines

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The city council will be taking final action on a proposal that will nearly double the fines for parking tickets.

An expired meter is currently $10 but the proposal would increase the fine to $20. Parking next to a yellow or red curb is a $20 fine and would increase to $30.

The proposal also makes other changes that would give drivers more time to pay off those tickets. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
