ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico could be the new back drop for the FAI World Air Games.

Ballooning officials are meeting in Albuquerque on Monday to discuss the possibility of hosting the 2020 event.

The games are the air sports version of the Olympics, where athletes from all over the world come together to compete.

Officials say since Albuquerque is no stranger to air events like Balloon Fiesta, it’s a perfect location.

“We want to share that experience, ballooning experience with the other air sports to bring in the parachuters, the gliders, the paragliders, the handgliders and so on,” said FAI President John Grubstom.

If chosen, Albuquerque would be the first city in North America to host the event.

The 2015 World Air Games were held in Dubai.
