Latin singers give New Mexico students college scholarships

Scholarships handed out to New Mexico students

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – They’ve achieved international fame but they haven’t forgotten their roots.

Latin singers Lorenzo Antonio and the group “Sparx” presented a dozen New Mexico students with scholarships Wednesday morning at an awards breakfast.

The New Mexico born siblings started a scholarship fund more than fifteen years ago. In that time, they have given out more than $1 million for kids go to college.

“We always think it’s such a great thing when we can help somebody accomplish their dreams and that’s really what we’re trying to do with this scholarship, is make the burden of going to college and the financial burden of it and help relieve some of that for them,” said Sanchez Olson.

The biggest fundraiser for the scholarship is an annual concert with Lorenzo and his sisters.

This year’s show will be September 17 at the Route 66 Casino. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
