ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Santa Fe City Council has signed off a parking voucher program that would allow drivers to leave their car downtown if they’ve had too much to drink.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, the committee signed off on a six month trial run. At the end of the trial run, they’ll decide if they want to continue the program.

The program allows drivers who are too intoxicated to drive to leave their cars in the downtown area overnight and avoid getting a parking ticket, as long as they keep their voucher.

Mayor Javier Gonzales says this is an effort to curb drunk driving and to encourage more people to go downtown. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
