SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Santa Fe man charged with his seventh DWI is now back on the streets.
49-year-old Elias Venzor was facing three years in prison. The district attorney’s office offered Venzor a deal that carries a maximum sentence of only 18 months.
The assistant DA told the judge he didn’t have a choice because of the way the evidence was gathered. He said there were serious issues during pretrial interviews.
The judge sentenced Venzor to the 18 months, all but six months suspended and five years’ probation.
Venzor has already served more than eight months under house arrest.
