Police identify victim in fatal Roswell shooting

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The Roswell Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead on Tuesday.

Police say it happened at about 5 p.m. on the 800 block of South Michigan Avenue in south Roswell. Police and medical personnel responded to the scene and found the homicide victim, 24-year-old Christopher Montoya, deceased in the street.

Investigators believe Montoya was outside when a vehicle arrived carrying multiple people inside. They say some or all of the people in the vehicle got into a fight with Montoya before he was shot. The people in the vehicle then fled.

Another male was transported to a hospital with a minor injury and police say he is believed to have been at the location when the shooting occurred, but was not shot.

No further information is available at this time.

Police are investigating.
