Owner pleads for return of stolen food truck

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A food truck owner is pleading for the return of her truck, after it was stolen from outside her Albuquerque home Monday.

Kristina Leeder, owner of Conchita’s Creations, is still in shock.

“I’m hoping that somebody just needed a ride and took the truck for a ride and hopefully we’ll find it parked somewhere,” said Leeder.

Leeder and her daughter got home Monday and noticed something was missing.

“I told her, ‘the speakers are gone’ and she said, ‘what about the truck?’. I said, ‘what do you mean, what about the truck?’ And I ran out of the car and the truck was gone,” said Leeder.

Her food truck was parked behind her home near Old Town until about 2:00 Monday afternoon. That’s when a neighbor says he saw someone drive it away. The timing of the theft couldn’t be worse.

Leeder said, “We’re at the beginning of our wedding and graduation season. The truck is booked next weekend and all of the weekends after that.”

Leeder has been serving healthy food out of the truck since 2012 and says she has an emotional attachment to it.

“My dad has helped me a bunch, the truck was named after my grandmother, so there’s a lot of history there.”

Leeder recently opened a place downtown, Conchita’s Café, but says business has been slow there, making the food truck that much more important.

“The food truck is where I make up a lot of the revenue to kinda keep the cafe going, so I mean, it’s a triple whammy. We’ve put so much heart and so much work into the truck and then for it to just all be gone in a matter of seconds. I mean, I’m still processing it all,” said Leeder.

Despite the theft she’s trying to keep a positive attitude and says she only wants one thing.

Leeder said, “I don’t have any words for whoever took it. They had to do what they had to do in that moment but I’d really like my truck back.”

Leeder says the truck is insured for about $16,000 but with all the kitchen equipment inside it will take a lot more than that to replace it. She hopes it will show up in the next couple of days, or she’ll be forced to cancel all of her scheduled events.
