4-year-old girl dies in crash on Tramway near I-40

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Police and emergency crews responded to a crash that resulted in the death of a 4-year-old girl near I-40 and Tramway on Friday night.

An early investigation revealed that two vehicles were involved. One was traveling South on Tramway and the vehicle with the 4-year-old in it was traveling north on Tramway. The northbound vehicle was turning right onto the West bound on-ramp of I-40, when they turned in front of the vehicle traveling south and crashed.

Officers say when they arrived on scene, they discovered that a small child had been ejected from one of the vehicles. The girl was rushed to UNM Hospital and later passed away.

No one else sustained injuries in the crash, according to police.

Southbound Tramway was shut down just north of I-40, but reopened around 10:30 p.m.

Police say that alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this case. This crash is still under investigation.
