Elementary students plant trees to celebrate Arbor Day

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)– To celebrate Arbor Day some kids picked up some shovels and got their hands dirty.

Students at Painted Sky Elementary got to help plant trees at the park next to their school near Unser and Ladera.

The City Forester says it’s important to educate the kids while they are young so they will grow up wanting to learn more.

State Forestry was also giving away seedlings.

Smokey Bear was there to help the Parks and Rec Department explain the importance of fire safety.
