Pedestrian hit, killed by Amtrak train in Bernalillo

Train hits pedestrian

BERNALILLO, N.M. (KRQE) –  Emergency crews responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit and killed by a train in Bernalillo on Tuesday.

Officials say the pedestrian, a 44-year-old man, was walking north on the tracks when he was struck by a southbound Amtrak train just before 4 p.m.

Amtrak officials say the crew and all passengers are fine.

KRQE News 13 has learned that the train did blow their horn several times to get the man to move off the tracks, and also hit its emergency break.

The situation is still being investigated.

Because of the incident, there was no southbound Rail Runner trains from Santa Fe to Bernalillo until the scene was cleared. Northbound Rail Runner trains ran to the US 550 station and back.

All Rail Runner trains are now back on schedule. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
