NM Firefighters headed to tennessee

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A group of New Mexico firefighters are headed to Tennessee. A crew of 20 left Santa Fe early Tuesday morning.

Tennessee requested New Mexico’s help as wildfires there have caused evacuations, road closures and have destroyed homes.

It’s part of state forestry’s “Returning Heroes Wildland Firefighter Program,” which hires, trains and provides work opportunities for military veterans.
