ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – They are the Mountain West leaders in baseball. Ray Birmingham’s University of New Mexico Lobos took a break from conference play to host nationally ranked Texas Tech in a pair of games.
Tuesday’s game one started with the Red Raiders taking a two to nothing advantage before the Lobos answered with runs in the third and fourth innings.
Reigning Mountain West Player of the Week, Carl Stajduhar, tied the game with one swing in the bottom of the fourth inning. His solo home run locked the game up at two.
The Red Raiders got a two-run shot from Tyler Neslony in the top of the fifth inning to take a four to two advantage.
The Lobos would score in the bottom of the inning, and later tie the game at four in the bottom of the sixth when Andre Vigil’s sacrifice fly scored Stajduhar. But, Texas Tech would add three more runs while Lobo bats went silent. The Red Raiders are victorious in game one 7-4. The Lobos dropped to 26-12 while the Red Raiders improved to 30-9.
Game two is Wednesday at 1pm.
