ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Isotopes hosted a special home opener Friday night as they honored long time PA announcer Stu Walker, who passed away after battling cancer last year.
His wife, Francina Walker, was in attendance and even threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
“It was not a job you know it was just something he really enjoyed,” said Francina Walker.
It was a great home opener as the Topes got the win 11-6, but coming out to these games isn’t just about baseball anymore. It’s about getting the family out of the house and having a place to go for a good time.
“Twelve firework shows this years, 22 giveaways, something just going on every game,” said Isotopes GM John Traub.
“I bought my son his first hat tonight, so it was a great night for me,” said Topes Fan Nathaniel Tempkin.
The Topes will continue their 7 game home stretch Friday, with the first firework show of the year happening after the game. UFC mega star Holly Holm is slated to throw out the games ceremonial first pitch.
Opening pitch is set for 7:05.
