Albuquerque pups pose in photo shoot for Running of the Chihuahuas

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It was a photo shoot like no other.

“We are attempting to hold a massive photo shoot for a bunch of Chihuahuas,” said event organizer, Micaela Brown.

Saturday in Rio Rancho, close to 20 Chihuahuas came together to strike a pose.

“I hope they Smize and give us drama,” said Brown.

Brown organized the shoot, inviting any and every Chihuahua owner in the metro area.

“For the most part it’s like herding cats so I think it will be cute,” said Chihuahua owner, Nicole Nagy.

And for the chihuahuas, they’ll get to star in promos for Albuquerque’s 2nd Annual Running of the Chihuahuas.

The event is in August at Balloon Fiesta Park.

“We race in heats of ten and I’m expecting about 200 Chihuahuas this year,” said Brown.

Money raised at the event will benefit Paws and Stripes, an organization that connects Veterans with service dogs.

Which means the Chihuahua stars are lending a helping paw. Each dog was ready for their close-up as well as group shots.

“We’re going to try and get them in a pack and have them run across,” said Brown.

Overall, it proved to be picture perfect.

Running of the Chihuahuas is August 20. For more information, click here. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
