Advocates claim state is wrongfully withholding immigrants refunds

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Advocates for undocumented immigrants argued New Mexico is wrongfully withholding immigrants’ refunds, saying it is investigating tax fraud.

Advocates say they now could get an injunction from a judge, which would force the State Taxation and Revenue Department to stop the practice.

The state denies those claims.

Reps say the system targets errors on refunds, not people. A judge is expected to make a decision on the injunction next week. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
