PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico police officer was shot after a traffic stop went wrong.

The Portales police officer was shot Monday afternoon while trying to take a person into custody who ran during a traffic stop.

Police say that suspect had a warrant out for his arrest.

Right now the officer’s condition is not known. However, police do have two people in custody.
