ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The consequences of not paying attention on the road can be deadly. That message came from the families of two New Mexico Department of Transportation workers killed on the job last month.

Anthony Rivera and David Eggert were struck and killed by a driver in Harding County as they were repairing pot holes.

Their families joined the governor to kick off “Work Zone Safety Awareness Week.”

Their message to drivers: take responsibility for your driving. The governor is urging drivers to stay alert at all times by avoiding distractions and being on the lookout for orange barrels, construction signs and other warnings workers could be ahead.

DOT vehicles will display orange ribbons as part of the awareness campaign.
