Trial for Carlsbad man accused of murdering father delayed

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE)– The murder trial of a Carlsbad man accused of dismembering his father, then burying him the backyard has been delayed.

Investigators say Steven Allumbaugh hit his 88-year-old father over the head back in 2012.

He then admitted to chopping up his dad’s body and burying it in garbage bags.

Allumbaugh was later found guilty of collecting more than $19,000 from his father’s social security checks.

Allumbaugh’s second degree murder trial was scheduled for Tuesday, but has been pushed back to April 19 because his attorney wants a psychological evaluation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
